On May 29, 1964 in the evening hours, Officer Ihu was traveling on Kahala Ave. responding to a fire call in Niu Valley. While traveling on Kahala Ave. with red lights flashing a car turned left into his path striking his motorcycle causing him to lose control.
Officer Ihu died four days later from the injuries he received from the accident.
