On October 27, 1923 shortly after 6:00 pm, Officer David Mahukona was returning to the main station for recall at the end of his shift traveling on King St. near McKinley High School when a vehicle suddenly reversed from an adjacent lane onto King St. in front of the officer's motorcycle.
Officer Mahukona swerved left to avoid the collision but struck the rear fender of the vehicle. Officer Mahukona was thrown from his motorcycle and subsequently died from his injuries as a result of the collision.
