On December 16th, 1963, Officer Andrew R. Morales and Officer Abraham E. Mahiko were on Special Assignment to Burglary and Robbery Detail Squad, together on midnight watch in the District 1 area.
Just prior to 1:25 am, Officer Morales and Officer Mahiko were patrolling the area of Cooke and Kawaiaha'o Street when they came across some suspicious males that appeared to be casing a warehouse. During the contact with these males both officers were ambushed by gunfire from multiple suspects. Both officers suffered mortal gunshot wounds.
